Electrical Engineer

Job Description

Provide instrumentation and electrical design support.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:Work in conjunction with customer representatives to assist in developing project scope of work

Work in conjunction with project team to develop project design and documentation packages

Read and interpret P&ID’s, specifications, purchase orders, and relevant project documentation

Size circuit breakers, motor starters, overloads, and perform short-circuit calculations

Size cable and conduit, and prepare cable and conduit schedules

Size cable tray, and prepare cable tray layout sketches

Work in conjunction with designers/drafters to prepare AutoCAD drawings for control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable tray layouts, field interconnect wiring, etc.

Prepare bill of materials documentation

Prepare test documentation for use by commissioning team

Perform quality control checks for designated projects

Provide peer reviews of work performed by designers and drafters

Interface with the customer, contractors, and other disciplines during design and construction

Attend and participate in bid, kick-off, turnover, and project meetings

Perform field surveys

Support sales staff to accurately estimate job man-hours, material costs, and schedule

Support project management staff to accurately estimate man-hour, material, and schedule requirements

Provide technical support to project managers and field personnel when necessary

Relevant Work Experience:

5-8 years’ experience in instrumentation and electrical systems

Available to travel to job sites and customer offices

Ability to work in field and offshore environments

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Working knowledge of the NFPA (NEC), API, and UL508A

Working knowledge of electrical design (conduit and cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, hazardous location apparatus selection, cable tray sizing and specification, motor control schematic and wiring, control panel layouts and wiring, field interconnect wiring, etc.)

Familiarity with pneumatic, electronic and analytical instrumentation used to measure and control flow, temperature, pressure, and level

Proficiency in reading technical documentation including Piping & Instrument Diagrams, loop drawings, wiring schematics, and specifications

Knowledge of Relay Logic and PLC & HMI programming will be considered a plus

Drafting (AutoCAD) experience will be considered a plus

Education and Training:

A minimum of a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
